A Men’s Shed is a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive place that provides the opportunity for men to form positive relationships, increase neighbourly connections, and work on projects that the shed decides to implement. The program aims to create a healthy environment for men to build new relationships and decrease social isolation and depression. The men share their skills and learn new skills from other shedders by participating in a variety of activities of their own choosing (e.g., woodworking, painting, and cooking, etc.)

Men’s Sheds originated in Australia and have spread throughout the UK, Ireland, USA, and Canada. They have become an international grassroots men’s-health movement grounded in the spirit of camaraderie and the power of connection.

We have brought in guest speakers to present assorted topics monthly and welcome anyone attending to bring up ideas and/or projects.

Projects we have completed in the first year of operation:

Cabinet for building sound system equipment, demo half of existing shelving and reused wood to install doors on remaining shelves, refurbished EFCL games and fabricated Jenga blocks, prepared and assembled three SCARS Walls for Winter dog houses with Ritchie Community League to start a shed there, built two raised garden boxes and six benches for NiGiNan Housing Ventures in Belvedere, designed and built 10 cribbage boards for Kenilworth Crib Club and 8 additional boards for our Shed. More projects are lined up for this fall and winter.
